Three Honu Family #4
Petroglyph is a word
that comes from the Greek words, "petras", for rock
and 'glyphen", to carve. Literally, petroglyphs are
rock carvings. The ancient Hawaiians called them
ki'i pohaku or stone images.
Traditionally the Honu or Sea Turtle was an
ancestral guardian for the ancient Hawaiian family.
The honu connects us with our past as they are
symbols of longevity and the ultimate navigators who
return to the sands of their birth. They are the
link between the old and the new.
The back of the carving features a history of the
petroglyph and a short artist bio. The piece is also
signed and dated by the artist.
"This stone has subtle splashes of warm color
and nice texture. There is nice contrast with
the turtles and the stone background.
This is a new design for 2009."
