Symbolizing strength and teamwork, this original oil painting features the striking image of three Hawaiian petroglyph canoe paddlers. With paddles raised high, poised to "kau", or plant their blades in the water, Guy evokes the bold spirit of the Hawaiian seafarer.

An exhilarating sense of movement is captured by combining several different painting techniques--action painting, a spontaneous poured-painting technique, along with Guy's fine traditional glazing techniques, which slowly build up luminescent colors with layer upon careful layer.

In Guy's exploration of ancient symbols created in a contemporary style, the natural curves of the petroglyph contrasted with hard geometric panel shapes, this piece features two different panel thicknesses with the sides of the painting raised above the center curved portion--a delicate balance between painting and sculpture, a bridge between ancient and modern art.
