Honu Soulmates #2

Petroglyph is a word that comes from the Greek words, "petras", for rock and 'glyphen", to carve. Literally, petroglyphs are rock carvings. The ancient Hawaiians called them ki'i pohaku or stone images.

Traditionally the Honu or Sea Turtle was an ancestral guardian for the ancient Hawaiian family. The honu connects us with our past as they are symbols of longevity and the ultimate navigators who return to the sands of their birth. They are the link between the old and the new.

The back of the carving features a history of the petroglyph and a short artist bio. The piece is also signed and dated by the artist.

"This stone has a light grey tone with some specs of rust colored iron oxide  There is nice contrast with the turtles and the cool colored stone background.  The honu with the spiral represents the female in this piece."
