Kokopelli

This original painting depicts the mythical flute player Kokopelli.  Often associated as a fertility figure, Kokopelli is associated with several Native American tribes, including the Hopi and Zuni.

The snake also symbolizes fertility here as the Hopi snake dance seeks to unite the spirits of the sky and underworld and renew the fertility of Nature.

The spiral represents a journey of rebirth and expanded consciousness.

This original work is painted on a lightly  textured panel and features a Koa veneer frame with two silk liners.

"When I first began painting this piece at a gallery in Hawaii, many people were surprised to see Kokopelli on Front Street, Maui.  I am most know for my Hawaiian petroglyphs, and many people think I am part Hawaiian, but I am actually Native American from the Creek and Potawatomi tribes.  The similarities between Native cultures throughout the world is fascinating to me and I enjoy learning about various cultures through their petroglyphs and pictograms.
