Reassurance
Ancient Hawaiians often saw animals as
mystical aumakua or spirit guardians.
Honu or the sea turtle was an especially important
symbol for the Hawaiian family and was a connection
to the past.
The framing for this piece features a
transversal Koa veneer (the grain runs in the short
direction instead of the traditional long
direction). This transversal grain give the
frame an distinct striped look.
