Traditionally the Honu or Sea Turtle was a guardian for the ancient Hawaiian family. Sea turtles are currently an endangered species. Petroglyphs are a favorite subject of mine and I am very pleased with the look of the texture and vibrant colors in this piece.
Hint from the Artist:

If you have a lighter colored frame (like light colored wood or gold colored frame) then go with a darker matboard (like the Black/Gold). This will look better with the increased contrast from the light frame to the dark matboard.

If you have a dark frame, then go with a lighter colored matboard (like the cream/black). This will look better with the increased contrast from the dark frame to the light matboard..
